Our work on deploying quadrupedal robots in monitoring and promoting social distance in response to the Covid-19 pandemic was reported by IEEE Spectrum recently.
Equipping a quadruped robot with multiple cameras and a 3D-LIDAR, the robot is capable of monitoring and track nearby pedestrian groups. Crowd-aware navigation and routing algorithms are designed to enable the robot to effectively promote social distancing by using human-friendly verbal cues to send suggestions to overly crowded pedestrians.
